🟦 Hanging float switch made of plastic

For SHT 5000, SHT 5001 and SHT 5002 – reliable, maintenance-free and ready for immediate use

⚙️ Simply hang it up – done!

The suspended float switch is the straightforward solution for reliably detecting rising water levels – without the need for complicated installation. Specially developed for the SHT 5000, SHT 5001, and SHT 5002 water detectors, it is simply suspended in shafts, tanks, or barrels via a cable. The integrated weight ensures that the switch always hangs vertically in the medium.

🧲 Durable reed contact technology

Inside, a wear-free reed switch operates at low voltages, achieving up to one trillion switching cycles. The float switches reliably at a water level of approximately 4 cm. Simply flipping the float body allows switching between normally closed and normally closed functions.

💧 Ideal for high humidity or pollution

Wherever conventional water sensors are prone to false alarms due to high levels of humidity, dirt, or condensation, the suspended float switch demonstrates its strengths – for example, in pump sumps, wells, cisterns, or water tanks. The float detects the water level directly – without any sensitive electronics in contact with the medium.

🔌 Robust cable – individually adjustable

The 6-meter-long, encapsulated LiYY cable is securely held in place by a PG cable gland. Its length is infinitely adjustable, temporarily waterproof, flame-retardant, and highly resistant to oils, greases, and coolants. If you require a different cable length, we will be happy to manufacture the float switch on request – entirely custom-made.

💦 Automatic water refill made easy

With the SCHABUS water refill system , manually refilling ponds, pools, or reservoirs is a thing of the past. In conjunction with the SHT 5002 water detector , the suspended float switch reliably detects low or high water levels and automatically controls the pump or valve.

🌞 Especially during longer periods of heat or during vacation time, this is a convenient and safe solution to keep the water level in the pond or pool stable - without constant refilling or checking.

🤝 Simple interaction of sensors and controls

If the first float switch (S1) drops to its lower level, a pump is activated or a solenoid valve is opened via the connected water detector. If the water level subsequently rises again and reaches the second float switch (S2), the water refill is automatically stopped .

The system is maintenance-free, reliable, and can be installed in just a few steps – ideal for individual applications in gardens, cisterns, or technical shafts.

⚙️ Technical note & connection

🔌 Connection to the following water detectors required (please order separately)
SHT 5000 or SHT 5001 or SHT 5002 from Elektrotechnik Schabus.
Cabling via thin, unshielded LiYY control cable (2 × 0.14 mm²) – max. 50 m cable length per scanner.

📏 Cable extension up to 50 meters possible

The factory-installed sensor or switch cable can be extended up to 50 m if required. A thin control cable with a cross-section of max. 2 × 0.14 mm² (LIYY type) must be used.

💡 Important: Larger cross-sections increase the cable's electrical capacitance. This can lead to false alarms or malfunctions – therefore, only thin control cables may be used!

When connecting several sensors in parallel, the lengths of the individual cables are added together (e.g. max. 20 m + 30 m).

⚠️ Notes on cable routing and surroundings

  • The LIYY control cables are only temporarily waterproof and according to the manufacturer:
    flame-retardant , self-extinguishing , low-adhesion
largely resistant to oils, greases, coolants and lubricants

  • Not suitable for permanent water contact or outdoor use without protection .

  • The cables must never be laid parallel to 230 V cables to avoid interference and safety risks .

📐 What do I need to consider when connecting the electrical system?

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE:
An incorrect electrical connection can destroy the sensitive reed contacts and thus cause a malfunction – in the worst case, resulting in personal injury or property damage.

Please therefore note:

  • No direct connection to inductive loads (e.g. relays, solenoid valves)

  • No direct connection to capacitive loads (e.g. PLC/PCS – see our “active” water sensors and float switches) or long cables > 50 m

  • Permissible switching capacity must not be exceeded

👉 For inductive loads, protection by means of an RC element or freewheeling diode is mandatory.

🔌 Which devices is the float switch compatible with?

The hanging float switch is specifically for the water detector SHT 5000, SHT 5001 and SHT 5002 designed by Elektrotechnik Schabus. It is connected directly to the respective reporting input.

💡 How does the float switch work?

The float contains a Reed contact, which is activated by buoyancy when the water level rises. From a level of approx. 4cm the contact closes and triggers an alarm on the water detector.

↕️ Can I reverse the switching function?

Yes! Simply rotate the float body 180° to switch between open and close functions.

There is a ring magnet in the float and a Meder reed contact cast in Wepuran® in the shaft. If the float moves up, the reed contact is closed. By turning the float over you get the reverse switching function, all you have to do is loosen the E-ring at the end of the shaft.

🛠️ How is the float switch attached?

Very simple: The switch is connected via the connection cable hung in the water vessel – e.g. B. in a shaft, tank or pump sump. The integrated Counterweight ensures that the float hangs vertically. An additional holder is not required.

This eliminates the need to drill into the tank, cistern or container.

💧 Is the float suitable for permanent moisture?

The float itself is for permanent moisture designed - the cable however not. The LiYY lines used are briefly waterproof, flame-retardant and chemical-resistant, but must not remain permanently in water.

⚠️ What do I have to consider when connecting?

The float switch may not directly can be connected to mains voltage, inductive or capacitive loads. This can destroy the sensitive reed contact. Please use only in conjunction with suitable Schabus water detectors.

For inductive loads (e.g. relays) a must be used RC element or a freewheeling diode be used

📏 Is there a float switch available with a longer cable?

Yes! We produce on request Special lengths entirely according to your specifications.

💧 Are the cables waterproof? The used LIYY cables are only waterproof for a short time and not suitable for permanent contact with water. We recommend special sensors for permanently humid or wet environments.

⚙️ Do I need to use a freewheeling diode when connecting a third-party device? Yes, absolutely! If you connect a third-party network device (e.g. an external relay or contactor) to the potential-free output, a Freewheeling diode (e.g. 1N4148) be connected in parallel to the coil. It protects the sensitive reed contacts from voltage peaks that occur when switching off.

🔧 What effect does a freewheeling diode have at the relay output? When a relay or contactor is switched off, briefly high voltage peaks (induction voltage) occur. A Freewheeling diode dissipates this and thus prevents damage to the switching contacts of the water detector - particularly important for longevity and functional reliability.

❓ Why can't LIYY cables be laid parallel to 230 V mains cables?

⚠️ Important: Laying LIYY cables and 230V power cables in parallel can result in Interference, electromagnetic influences and in the worst case to Security risks lead. Please always maintain separate cable ducts or sufficient distance.

⚠️ What do I need to consider when making the electrical connection?

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: A incorrect electrical connection can use the sensitive Destroy reed contacts and thereby cause a malfunction - in the worst case, resulting in personal injury or property damage.

Therefore please note:

  • Kein direkter Anschluss an induktive Lasten (z. B. Relais, Magnetventile)
  • Kein direkter Anschluss an kapazitive Lasten (z. B. SPS/PLS – siehe unsere „aktiven“ Wassersensoren und Schwimmerschalter) oder lange Leitungen > 50 m
  • Zulässige Schaltleistung darf nicht überschritten werden

👉 For inductive loads is protection using RC element or freewheeling diode absolutely necessary.
