Scope of delivery

  • SHT 5090 Soil – Water sensor with 3 balls
  • cast on 2.5 meters LIYY control cable 2 x 0.14 mm²
  • Operating instructions for water sensors | float switches | accessories

💦 SHT 5090 – The heavy water sensor without installation

The SHT 5090 water sensor is the perfect solution for anyone who doesn't want to drill into tiles but still needs reliable, comprehensive monitoring for water leaks.

Whether under radiators, washing machines, sinks or shower trays : With its own weight of around 100 grams, the sensor remains securely on the floor - without any fixing or holder .

⚙️ Technology that stays where it should

Thanks to its compact design and three ball electrodes, the SHT 5090 always establishes secure ground contact – even if you lean it vertically against a wall (e.g. behind a cupboard).
Two balls always touch the ground – and your water detector immediately triggers an alarm in the event of a leak .

🧩 Use without screwing, gluing or drilling

The sensor is simply placed on the floor – that's it . No further installation is required.
It is particularly suitable for:

  • rental apartments

  • sensitive floors (tiles, designer flooring)

  • hard-to-reach places (e.g. under furniture or in hollow spaces)

⚙️ Technical note & connection

🔌 Connection to the following water detectors required (please order separately)
SHT 5000 or SHT 5001 from Elektrotechnik Schabus.
Cabling via thin, unshielded LiYY control cable (2 × 0.14 mm²) – max. 50 m cable length per scanner.

📏 Cable extension up to 50 meters possible
The factory-installed cable length can be extended up to 50 m . The recommended cross-section is 2 × 0.14 mm² .

⚠️ Notes on cable routing and area of application
The LIYY cables used are only temporarily waterproof and, according to the manufacturer , are flame-retardant, low-adhesion, and self-extinguishing . They are resistant to oils, greases, coolants, and lubricants , but are not suitable for permanent water contact.

⚠️ Safety note: The LIYY cables must never be laid parallel to 230 V mains cables to avoid interference and safety risks.

Circuit diagram with freewheeling diode

When using third-party power supplies , it is necessary to connect a freewheeling diode (e.g. 1N4148) in parallel to the relay or contactor.

The function of the freewheeling diode is to suppress voltage spikes that occur when the relay is turned off. This minimizes current flow and voltage, thus protecting the sensitive reed contacts.

What is the advantage of the high dead weight?

The weight of approximately 100 g ensures that the sensorrests securely on the ground– without screwing or adhesive mounting. This means it stays where it belongs, even with slightly rigid connecting cables.

Can the sensor also be operated vertically?

Yes! Through the three ball electrodes touchalways two balls hit the ground– even if the sensorleaning upright against the wall.

Which water detectors is the sensor suitable for?

The SHT 5090 can be connected to the following Elektrotechnik Schabus models:
SHT 5000, SHT 5001

How is the sensor connected?

About aLiYY cable (2 × 0.14 mm², max. 20 m length)This control cable is unshielded, flexible, and suitable for many environments.

Does the sensor need to be mounted or glued?

No. The SHT 5090 issimply placed on the area to be monitored– without any assembly.

Can the sensor be used permanently underwater?

No, like all passive sensors it isnot for continuous operation in waterIt reliably detectsoccurring leaks– but must not be permanently submerged in shafts or tanks.

💧 Are the cables waterproof?
The usedLIYY cables are only temporarily waterproofand not suitable for permanent water contact. For permanently damp or wet environments, we recommend special sensors.

⚙️ Do I need to use a freewheeling diode when connecting a third-party device?
Yes, absolutely! If you connect a third-party power supply (e.g. an external relay or contactor) to the potential-free output, aFreewheeling diode (e.g. 1N4148)connected in parallel to the coil. This protects the sensitive reed contacts from voltage spikes that occur during shutdown.

🔧 What does a freewheeling diode do at the relay output?
When a relay or contactor is switched off, high voltage peaks (induction voltage) occur for a short time.Freewheeling diodediverts these and thus prevents damage to the switching contacts of the water detector – particularly important for longevity and functional reliability.

❓ Why can't LIYY cables be laid parallel to 230 V mains cables?

⚠️ Important:The parallel laying of LIYY cables and 230 V mains cables can lead toInterference, electromagnetic influencesand in the worst case toSecurity risksPlease always maintain separate cable ducts or sufficient distance.
