If you regularly cook, fry, or bake in the kitchen, the extractor hood often runs to remove grease, smoke, odors, and other kitchen particles from the air.
A wireless exhaust air control system is particularly important in households that also have a fireplace, gas boiler, wood stove or other heating devices.
Why is this so crucial? When the extractor hood extracts air, a negative pressure can develop in the kitchen. Negative pressure means that air from other sources is drawn into the kitchen to compensate for the lack of air pressure.
Unfortunately, this poses the risk of toxic gases like carbon monoxide being drawn into the living space from the fireplace, stove, or gas appliance. Carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless, and extremely dangerous to health – even small amounts can lead to poisoning.
This is where the FDS 200 wireless exhaust air control with window contact switch comes in. It automatically ensures that the extractor hood only operates when a window is open. This keeps the air in your kitchen fresh, clean, and safe at all times. At the same time, the hood is energy-efficient because it only consumes power when absolutely necessary.
A special feature of the FDS 200 is the power plug safety feature. The extractor hood connects directly to the adapter and is secured with a plastic screw. This prevents anyone from unnoticed unplugging the power plug or bypassing the safety feature – comparable to a child safety lock for your exhaust air system. This ensures that the required exhaust air control remains active at all times.
Only the FDS 100 or KDS 110 models are suitable for use with downdraft extractors (such as those from BORA or MIELE). This ensures that your exhaust air solution functions reliably and safely.
The operation is very simple, understandable and requires no technical expertise:
The small, compact window contact switch is mounted directly on the window frame. It reliably detects whether the window is open or closed. This way, you always know that the extractor hood is only running when fresh air is flowing into the room.
The window contact switch sends a radio signal to the receiver when the window is opened. This automatically activates the extractor hood – without any additional effort.
👉 This way you can enjoy maximum safety without having to forego the usual ease of use of your hood.
If the battery in the window contact switch is empty (red LED lights up), the extractor hood automatically shuts off. This ensures that your kitchen remains safe at all times and there is no danger from negative pressure or toxic gases.
Thanks to this feature, you no longer have to worry about dangerous gases while cooking – the control works reliably and automatically.
Installation is straightforward and can be done without the need for a specialist.
Glue or screw the switch to the window frame. The window contact switch should be installed where the gap allows for sufficient fresh air flow. (See our gap calculator.)
The receiver is plugged into a socket near the extractor hood, and then the extractor hood is plugged in. The device automatically detects the radio signal from the window contact switch.
The wireless connection between the window contact and the receiver is optimized for everyday kitchen use. The range is typically 10–20 meters within living spaces.
Please note:
👉 In the vast majority of kitchens, the connection works reliably without any additional measures.
You have the option of using a second window with an additional FDS 098 wireless magnetic switch. At least one window must then be open for the exhaust system to operate. Elektrotechnik-Schabus can program an additional wireless switch for the set using the wireless receiver's serial number. The serial number can be found on the type plate of the wireless receiver and transmitter, below the barcode field.
An existing FDS 200 SET can be supplemented with an additional receiver at any time – for example, as a built-in version (FDS 199) or a plug-in version (FDS 299) . Both receivers respond simultaneously to the transmitter's radio signal and each activates the connected exhaust air system. For this, Elektrotechnik-Schabus requires the serial number to code the devices to each other.
Battery life: 2–3 years. Please note that poor wireless connection (e.g., if the receiver is installed behind stainless steel) or frequent and prolonged opening of windows (for ventilation in summer) can result in high battery consumption.
Regularly checking the battery ensures that the wireless exhaust air control always works reliably and that no risks arise.
The FDS 200 wireless exhaust air control with window contact switch for extractor hoods is a simple, practical, and reliable solution for combining safety, comfort, and energy efficiency in your kitchen:
With the FDS 200, you have safe air in the kitchen, avoid dangerous situations, and comply with legal regulations. It's ideal for anyone who wants to make their kitchen more comfortable, safer, and more energy-efficient.
