🔒 Cook safely with the window contact switch

If you regularly cook, fry, or bake in the kitchen, the extractor hood often runs to remove grease, smoke, odors, and other kitchen particles from the air.

A wireless exhaust air control system is particularly important in households that also have a fireplace, gas boiler, wood stove or other heating devices.

Why is this so crucial? When the extractor hood extracts air, a negative pressure can develop in the kitchen. Negative pressure means that air from other sources is drawn into the kitchen to compensate for the lack of air pressure.

Unfortunately, this poses the risk of toxic gases like carbon monoxide being drawn into the living space from the fireplace, stove, or gas appliance. Carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless, and extremely dangerous to health – even small amounts can lead to poisoning.

This is where the FDS 200 wireless exhaust air control with window contact switch comes in. It automatically ensures that the extractor hood only operates when a window is open. This keeps the air in your kitchen fresh, clean, and safe at all times. At the same time, the hood is energy-efficient because it only consumes power when absolutely necessary.

A special feature of the FDS 200 is the power plug safety feature. The extractor hood connects directly to the adapter and is secured with a plastic screw. This prevents anyone from unnoticed unplugging the power plug or bypassing the safety feature – comparable to a child safety lock for your exhaust air system. This ensures that the required exhaust air control remains active at all times.

👉 Note for downdraft extractors

Only the FDS 100 or KDS 110 models are suitable for use with downdraft extractors (such as those from BORA or MIELE). This ensures that your exhaust air solution functions reliably and safely.

⚙️ How does the wireless exhaust air control work?

The operation is very simple, understandable and requires no technical expertise:

🪟 Window contact switch - magnetic contact

The small, compact window contact switch is mounted directly on the window frame. It reliably detects whether the window is open or closed. This way, you always know that the extractor hood is only running when fresh air is flowing into the room.

📡 Intelligent security release

The window contact switch sends a radio signal to the receiver when the window is opened. This automatically activates the extractor hood – without any additional effort.

🙌 Comfortable & safe in everyday life

  • Window opened → hood can be switched on as usual
  • Window closed → hood is reliably switched off

👉 This way you can enjoy maximum safety without having to forego the usual ease of use of your hood.

🔋 Battery empty

If the battery in the window contact switch is empty (red LED lights up), the extractor hood automatically shuts off. This ensures that your kitchen remains safe at all times and there is no danger from negative pressure or toxic gases.

Thanks to this feature, you no longer have to worry about dangerous gases while cooking – the control works reliably and automatically.

✅ Advantages of the FDS 200 at a glance

  • ✅ Retrofittable: Easy to install even in existing kitchens or rental apartments.
  • ✅ Multiple windows and devices: Magnetic contact switches and exhaust air devices can be linked together. Additional transmitter FDS 098
  • ✅ Universally usable: For extractor hoods, bathroom fans and other exhaust air devices.
  • ✅ TÜV tested and DIBt approved (Z-85.2-10): Meets all legal requirements for exhaust air controls and ensures tested safety.

🛠️ Assembly & installation step by step

Installation is straightforward and can be done without the need for a specialist.

Install window contact switch

Glue or screw the switch to the window frame. The window contact switch should be installed where the gap allows for sufficient fresh air flow. (See our gap calculator.)

Plug the receiver into the socket

The receiver is plugged into a socket near the extractor hood, and then the extractor hood is plugged in. The device automatically detects the radio signal from the window contact switch.

Test run

  • Open window → hood runs reliably
  • Close window → hood stops immediately

📡 Note on radio range

The wireless connection between the window contact and the receiver is optimized for everyday kitchen use. The range is typically 10–20 meters within living spaces.

Please note:

  • Solid walls and metal surfaces (e.g. a stainless steel hood) can weaken the signal.
  • Therefore, when installing, ensure that there are as few obstacles as possible directly between the window contact and the receiver.

👉 In the vast majority of kitchens, the connection works reliably without any additional measures.

➕ Operation with second window (OR operation)

You have the option of using a second window with an additional FDS 098 wireless magnetic switch. At least one window must then be open for the exhaust system to operate. Elektrotechnik-Schabus can program an additional wireless switch for the set using the wireless receiver's serial number. The serial number can be found on the type plate of the wireless receiver and transmitter, below the barcode field.

➕ Second recipient

An existing FDS 200 SET can be supplemented with an additional receiver at any time – for example, as a built-in version (FDS 199) or a plug-in version (FDS 299) . Both receivers respond simultaneously to the transmitter's radio signal and each activates the connected exhaust air system. For this, Elektrotechnik-Schabus requires the serial number to code the devices to each other.

🔋 Battery & Maintenance

Battery life: 2–3 years. Please note that poor wireless connection (e.g., if the receiver is installed behind stainless steel) or frequent and prolonged opening of windows (for ventilation in summer) can result in high battery consumption.

  • Low battery warning: The extractor hood switches off automatically as soon as the sensor battery is empty.
  • Changing the battery: Easy and possible with the included screwdriver.

Regularly checking the battery ensures that the wireless exhaust air control always works reliably and that no risks arise.

🎯 Conclusion – Safety, comfort and energy saving

The FDS 200 wireless exhaust air control with window contact switch for extractor hoods is a simple, practical, and reliable solution for combining safety, comfort, and energy efficiency in your kitchen:

  • Window open → hood can be switched on
  • Window closed → hood stops automatically, but should then be switched off
  • Negative pressure and carbon monoxide are reliably avoided
  • Easy installation and retrofitting
  • Save electricity and use energy efficiently

With the FDS 200, you have safe air in the kitchen, avoid dangerous situations, and comply with legal regulations. It's ideal for anyone who wants to make their kitchen more comfortable, safer, and more energy-efficient.

🔧 Technology & function

How does the FDS 200 SET work exactly? The FDS 200 set ensures that your exhaust system (e.g. extractor hood) is only supplied with power when a window is open. A battery-operated radio transmitter detects the window position and transmits the signal to the plug-in receiver, which releases power for the exhaust air device.

The FDS 200 set completely shuts off the power supply, d.hLighting or other functions of your exhaust system will also be switched off.

What happens if the window is closed while the hood is running? The receiver then automatically interrupts the power supply - the exhaust system switches off. This protects against dangerous negative pressure and prevents the backflow of toxic gases.

Can the system also be used with multiple windows? Yes. For an OR link (at least one of two windows open), an additional transmitter can be integrated, which must be coded appropriately by Elektrotechnik-Schabus.

How long is the radio range between the transmitter and receiver? In the open field the range is up to 20m. Indoors it can be reduced by walls, ceilings or other sources of interference.

How long does the battery in the transmitter last? The included brand-name button cell (CR2032) battery lasts up to 2 years under normal operating conditions, depending on the frequency of use. D.hIf the window is tilted, the transmitter constantly sends signals and the battery discharges, even if the exhaust system is not used.z.B(Ventilation in summer)

Is there a radio interference or empty battery displayed? Yes. The transmitter signals a weak battery with a flashing red LED. If there is no radio signal, the receiver switches off automatically so that the exhaust system no longer works - for safety reasons.

Is the radio operation interference-free and does not require approval? Yes. The system operates on a legally approved frequency in the ISM band and does not require a license for private and commercial use.

🛠️ installation & compatibility

➕ Extensions & Variants

Can I control a second receiver? Yes – one transmitter can serve multiple receivers at the same time. For example, you can B. control several devices in parallel.

How can I monitor two windows? (OR link) An additional transmitter is sufficient for an OR link (FDS 098 article 300098). At least one of the two windows must be open for the exhaust system to operate. The additional transmitter must be coded to the same radio frequency when ordering from Elektrotechnik-Schabus, which is why we need the serial number of the FDS 200 SET when ordering.

How does the expansion work with the additional transmitter FDS 098 (article 300098)? The additional transmitter is mounted on the window like the first one and is set to the same coding directly by Elektrotechnik-Schabus, which is possible using the serial number of the main set. Both transmitters work in parallel.

🧾 Legal & Security

Why is exhaust air control for extractor hoods required by law? If exhaust air systems are operated in rooms with fireplaces, negative pressure can arise - this could cause toxic exhaust gases (e.g. carbon monoxide) to flow back. Exhaust air control prevents this and is mandatory in these cases. see Fireplace Ordinance (§4 Abs. 2 FeuVo)

Does the FDS 200 SET meet the regulations for exhaust systems with fireplaces? Yes. The FDS 200 SET is TÜV-tested and has DIBt approval. You can find the certificate in the download area on our website.

The serial number of your main set is required for replacement transmitters.

How long is the guarantee? You receive a 2-year guarantee on the product in accordance with legal regulations.

Who can help me with technical questions or in a warranty case? Our technical support is available to assist you by telephone or email. You can find the contact details on our website.

Important information for connection and operation

* Obstacles, especially metals, sometimes significantly reduce the range compared to open space. The actual range always depends on the respective installation. If there are frequent interruptions in operation, despite a fresh battery, a poor radio link is often to blame. The distance between the transmitter and receiver hardly plays a role. Keep the receiver at least 20 cm away from the nearest metal surface. Thick glass plates, ceramic hobs, kitchen cupboards with pots and pans, as well as walls and ceilings also provide excellent protection from radio waves and disrupt reliable operation. For a good connection, when installing, orient the receiver so that its LED “looks” towards the transmitter.

🛒 purchase & service

Which components are included in the FDS 200 SET? A battery-operated window transmitter (window contact switch, magnetic switch), an adapter plug receiver as well as mounting material and instructions.

Are there spare parts (e.g. transmitter, battery, receiver)? Yes. Transmitter (FDS 098 item 300098), receiver (FDS 199 item 300601) (FDS 299 item 300602), batteries (CR2032) (item 200764) and other accessories are available individually. The serial number of your main set is required for replacement transmitters.

How long is the guarantee? You receive a 2-year guarantee on the product in accordance with legal regulations.
