External CO2 sensor for carbon dioxide - from technical systems

The external CO2 sensor, with its own alarm, status LEDs, and test button, is optimized as an accessory for the SCHABUS GX-HS and GX-A1+ gas warning devices . Its warning levels and IP54 protection rating comply with the German Beverage Dispensing Equipment Ordinance . For use in the hospitality industry, this NDIR sensor is designed with an alarm threshold of 1.5% vol. CO2 for the pre-alarm and 3.0% vol. CO2 for the main alarm.

The GX-CO2-30 CO₂ gas sensor from Elektrotechnik Schabus is specifically designed for use in cold storage rooms, warehouses, and areas with CO₂ pressure cylinders – especially in the hospitality industry, where CO₂ is widely used in beverage dispensing systems. It reliably monitors carbon dioxide from technical systems, thus supporting operators in the early detection of potential leaks in valves and pressure vessels.

In small, poorly ventilated rooms, even a small leak can cause CO₂ concentrations to reach dangerous levels within a short period of time. The GX-CO2-30 reliably detects such conditions – without reacting excessively to stale or poorly ventilated room air. For this reason, the alarm thresholds are set higher than those of typical indoor air sensors, as is practical: the pre-alarm is triggered at 1.5% vol. CO₂, and the main alarm at 3.0% vol. CO₂. These settings take into account the special requirements of technical systems with pressurized CO₂, but are deliberately geared towards everyday suitability and the avoidance of false alarms.

The sensor uses a precise NDIR (non-dispersive infrared) measurement principle for reliable carbon dioxide detection. As an active sensor, it also operates independently—with its own status indicator, integrated alarm, and test button—and can also be combined with the GX-HS and GX-A1+ gas detectors. Communication is via an analog voltage signal, which can trigger a potential-free relay switching in the detector when the alarm threshold is exceeded. This allows for easy, flexible integration into ventilation, alarm, or control systems.

For harsh operating environments, the sensor housing has an IP54 protection rating – protected against dust deposits inside and water splashes from all sides. An integrated high-tech membrane further protects the sensitive electronics from moisture, for example, when cleaning rooms. The sensor can therefore remain installed and does not need to be removed for routine cleaning procedures.

Important: The GX-CO2-30 meets essential requirements of the Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances (TRGS) for beverage dispensing systems, but is not certified as a complete replacement for a TRGS-compliant system. It offers maximum compatibility with the proven SCHABUS systems and is ideally suited as a practical warning system for restaurants, food processing facilities, and technical operating rooms with CO₂ applications.
