  • SHT 5020 Aqua-Scanner - Water sensor with long sensor cable
  • cast on 2 meters LIYY control cable 2 x 0.14 mm²
  • Operating instructions for water sensors | float switches | accessories

💧 Detect water leaks early – with the Aqua Scanner SHT 5020

The Aqua Scanner SHT 5020 is a highly sensitive, 2 m long leak sensor that can be extended upon request. Thanks to its conductive polymer technology, it reacts to even the smallest amounts of water along its entire length – just drops are enough to trigger an alarm.

The robust sensor cable consists of two sensor wires securely embedded in a fluoropolymer carrier rod . It is corrosion- and abrasion-resistant , completely metal-free, and can be easily wiped with a damp cloth for cleaning.

🛡️ Reliable protection – exactly where water can escape

Whether under kitchen units, behind bathroom furniture, next to aquariums or in laundry rooms – the Aqua Scanner can be installed discreetly over large areas and monitors entire areas instead of just individual points.
This saves you the trouble of searching for the lowest spot where water collects – and gains valuable time to avoid expensive water damage .

🔧 Versatile applications

Ideal for installation:

  • under or behind kitchen and bathroom furniture

  • around aquariums, tanks and water pipes

  • on the underside of pipes

  • in roof insulation, under screed or in
fire-protected cable ducts (e.g. with rock wool)

  • in data centers, technical rooms and
Heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems

  • for IoT (Internet of Things) projects and smart building technology

⚙️ Technical note & connection

🔌 Connection to the following water detectors required (please order separately)
SHT 5000 or SHT 5001 from Elektrotechnik Schabus.
Cabling via thin, unshielded LiYY control cable (2 × 0.14 mm²) – max. 50 m cable length per scanner.

📏 Cable extension up to 50 meters possible
The factory-installed cable length can be extended up to 50 m . The recommended cross-section is 2 × 0.14 mm² .

⚠️ Notes on cable routing and area of application
The LIYY cables used are only temporarily waterproof and, according to the manufacturer , are flame-retardant, low-adhesion, and self-extinguishing . They are resistant to oils, greases, coolants, and lubricants , but are not suitable for permanent water contact.

⚠️ Safety note: The LIYY cables must never be laid parallel to 230 V mains cables to avoid interference and safety risks.

[caption id="attachment_21251" align="alignleft" width="134"] Circuit diagram with freewheeling diode[/caption] When using third-party power supplies , it is necessary to connect a freewheeling diode (e.g. 1N4148) in parallel to the relay or contactor. The function of the freewheeling diode is to suppress voltage spikes that occur when the relay is turned off. This minimizes current flow and voltage, thus protecting the sensitive reed contacts.

How does the Aqua Scanner SHT 5020 work?

The Aqua Scanner detects tiny amounts of water along its entire cable length. The sensor cable consists of two embedded conductors - if water comes between them, the connected water detector registers it and triggers an alarm.

Where can I relocate the sensor?

The cable can be laid flat under kitchen units, behind bathroom furniture, around tanks, pipes or aquariums. Technical areas such as data centers or cable ducts are also ideal. Important: Only in dry normal areas use – not permanently under water.

Is the cable waterproof or even submersible?

The sensor cable is moisture resistant, but not suitable for permanent underwater applications. Prolonged soaking can lead to false alarms.

How long is the cable and can I extend it?

Standard length of the black and white coiled sensor cable: 2 meters. The sensor cable can be extended up to 1500 m upon request.
A is used for connection LiYY control cable (2 × 0.14 mm², max. 20 m) used.

Which water detector is compatible with the sensor?

The Aqua Scanner SHT 5020 can be used with the following Schabus water detectors: SHT 5000 and SHT 5001

How do I clean the sensor cable?

Quite simply with a damp, clean cloth Wipe clean – do not use aggressive cleaning agents.

What happens with distilled or very pure water?

Pure water hardly conducts electricity. In such cases, the sensor cable cannot detect any leakage. This concerns e.g. B. distilled water or condensate from air conditioning systems.

💧 Are the cables waterproof? The used LIYY cables are only waterproof for a short time and not suitable for permanent contact with water. We recommend special sensors for permanently humid or wet environments.

⚙️ Do I need to use a freewheeling diode when connecting a third-party device? Yes, absolutely! If you connect a third-party network device (e.g. an external relay or contactor) to the potential-free output, a Freewheeling diode (e.g. 1N4148) be connected in parallel to the coil. It protects the sensitive reed contacts from voltage peaks that occur when switching off.

🔧 What effect does a freewheeling diode have at the relay output? When a relay or contactor is switched off, briefly high voltage peaks (induction voltage) occur. A Freewheeling diode dissipates this and thus prevents damage to the switching contacts of the water detector - particularly important for longevity and functional reliability.

❓ Why can't LIYY cables be laid parallel to 230 V mains cables?

⚠️ Important: Laying LIYY cables and 230V power cables in parallel can result in Interference, electromagnetic influences and in the worst case to Security risks lead. Please always maintain separate cable ducts or sufficient distance.
