💧 Water detector SHT 5001 – Double security for long distances

The SHT 5001 is a powerful water detector in a standardized DIN rail housing – ideal for professional installation in sub-distribution boards and control cabinets. It is suitable for monitoring basements, utility rooms, flat roofs, cisterns, pits, drains, shafts, or tanks – anywhere where water ingress needs to be detected early.

✅ Two reporting lines – can be evaluated separately

The device has two independent detection lines , each of which:

  • can be equipped with water sensors or mini float switches,
  • switch their own relay in case of alarm,
  • and enable an individual alarm memory function.

Both lines have the same structure and can be flexibly configured – whether for automatic reset or alarm acknowledgment at the touch of a button.

🔌 Long cable lengths – up to 300 m

Thanks to the clear separation of input types, the SHT 5001 allows significantly longer cable lengths than other water detectors:

  • Up to 100 m for water sensors
  • Up to 300 m for mini float switches

It is important to use unshielded LiYY cables (2×0.14 mm²) , which must not be laid parallel to power cables. The maximum cable capacitance is 10 nF.

🔋 Operation with mains voltage or battery (UPS)

The SHT 5001 can be operated flexibly – either with mains voltage 230 V AC or a 12/24 V DC source .
If a battery is connected , the device functions as an uninterruptible power supply:

  • At 12 V, the mains voltage takes priority.
  • At 24 V the battery takes over.
  • Switching occurs automatically at approximately 15 V.

📢 Alarm display & reset

The integrated alarm beeper warns directly on the device. A 12 V/30 mA alarm output is also available for external signaling devices. The reset function can be activated either via the button on the front panel or externally via a potential-free contact – ideal for locked cabinets or remote monitoring.

💡 Please order water sensor or mini float switch!

  • Sensors are only suitable for regularly dry environments and react to small amounts of water as soon as the conductive water film touches both contacts.
  • Conductive water required (tap water, rainwater, fresh water), resistance must be less than approx. 80 kOhm
  • demineralized / distilled water or condensate water has too low or even no conductivity
  • passive sensors do not emit a signal and do not change their properties when in contact with water
  • For water level, please use mini float switches (e.g. in shafts, tanks, pump sumps, etc.), minimum level 4 cm

🔌How is the SHT 5001 powered?

The SHT 5001 can be used with eitherMains voltage(230 V AC) or withDC voltage(12 V or 24 V DC).
If an additionalrechargeable battery or a batteryconnected, it automatically takes over the power supply in the event of a power failure – the SHT 5001 then functions asuninterruptible emergency power supply (UPS).

The following applies:

  • At12 V batteriesthe mains voltage has priority.
  • At24 V batteriesthe battery has priority.
  • The switching limit is approx.15 V.

🧪Which sensors can I connect – and when do I use which one?

The SHT 5001 supports two types of sensors:

  • Water sensorsare ideal forregularly dry environments, such as under washing machines, dishwashers, or in utility rooms. They reliably detect water on flat surfaces, but should not be exposed to permanently humid environments, as they can wear out over time.
  • Mini float switchare suitable forpermanently humid zones, toLevel monitoring, atnon-conductive liquidsor in wells, shafts, tanks, etc. They are wear-free and low-maintenance.

Recommendation:If technically possible,Mini float switch– they are much more robust and durable.

📏How long can the cables to the sensors be?

The cable lengths vary depending on the sensor type:

  • Water sensors:until100 m
  • Mini float switch:until300 m

The prerequisite is that onlyunshielded LiYY cables with 2×0.14 mm²The maximum line capacity may not exceed10 nF per lineIt is also important that the cablesnot parallel to 230 V mains linesbe laid to avoid disruption.

🔁What is alarm memory and how does it work?

About a simpleWire bridge in the devicecan theAlarm memoryIn this mode, a triggered alarm remainspermanently storeduntil it is actively reset – for example, via the reset button on the front or via aexternally connected button(potential-free contact at input Q, terminals 10/11).

If the memory functionnot activated, the alarm will automatically clear as soon as no more water is detected.

The SHT 5001 offers this functionseparately for each of the two reporting lines– for maximum flexibility.

🔉How is the alarm signaled?

The SHT 5001 emits the following alarm signals when water is contacted or the water level is exceeded:

  • aacoustic warning tonevia the internal beeper,
  • and activates aChangeover relaythat can switch external devices (e.g. pumps, alarms, home automation).
  • In addition, there is aAlarm output with 12 V / 30 mAavailable – e.g. for signal LEDs, flashing lights or external sirens.

Both reporting lines releaseseparate relaysoff, the buzzer and the alarm output apply to both lines

🛠️How many sensors can I connect per line?

For each reporting line, two sensorsconnect – one each to:

  • the entrance forWater sensors,
  • and the entrance forMini float switch.

Thus, each linedouble-assignable, each with independent evaluation and relay control.

💬What happens if I detect water but the alarm doesn't go off?

In this case, theMemory function activeA saved alarmremainsuntil it is manually reset—via the reset button or an externally connected switch. If necessary, check the position of the jumper wire in the device.

If there is no more water but the alarm still soundsdoes not reset automatically, it is most likely because theMemory function switched onwas
