The base of the magnetic holder is attached to the ceiling with strong 3M double-sided adhesive tape, while the magnetic counterpart is attached to a smoke detector, which is powered by a simple 9-volt battery that needs to be replaced frequently. This allows the smoke detector to be easily removed and reattached for regular battery changes. The magnetic holder is not particularly suitable for EiElectronics' 10-year battery smoke detectors, as these have their own special bayonet mount and are rarely removed from the ceiling.
