FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Technology & Function
What does the KDT 210 cable exhaust air control do?
The KDT 210 cable exhaust control ensures the safe operation of exhaust systems when a fireplace is operated simultaneously in the same room. Using a temperature sensor in the flue pipe, the device detects whether the fireplace (e.g., gas boiler, wood stove) is in operation. As soon as a preset temperature is exceeded, the KDT 210 cable exhaust control automatically interrupts the power supply to the exhaust system, thus preventing dangerous negative pressure.
How does temperature monitoring work?
A thermal switch is located on the flue pipe of the fireplace. It triggers as soon as the flue gas temperature exceeds 40°C (fixed switching point). This information is transmitted via cable to the control unit, which then shuts down the exhaust system.
Can I adjust the temperature?
No. The trigger temperature is set to a fixed 40 °C – a proven and reliable value for detecting the ignition of room-air-dependent fireplaces.
installation
Where is the thermal switch mounted?
The thermal switch is attached directly to the flue pipe of the fireplace – ideally with the included pipe clamp or mounting spring. The mounting point should be easily accessible and heat-conducting to ensure reliable temperature measurement.
6 meters of connection cable is not enough – what can I do?
The pre-assembled cables of the KDT 210 set can be extended up to 25 meters using standard two-wire cables. Please note, however, that the KDT 210 is designed as a complete, easy-to-install set. For longer distances, we recommend using the more flexible individual components—such as the KDS 110 control unit in combination with the exhaust gas temperature monitor (item no. 201753).
The temperature sensor is integrated directly into the window contact cable by splitting a wire and inserting the sensor in between – a proven solution for longer cable runs or individual planning.
Important maintenance note:
The sensor of the exhaust gas temperature monitor is extremely sensitive to mechanical stress. Please ensure that the sensormust be removed from the pipe before cleaning the flue pipe – especially by the chimney sweepThis will prevent damage and ensure the long-term reliability of the system.
Legal
Does the KDT 210 cable exhaust air control meet the requirements of the combustion regulations?
Yes, the device is suitable for use in conjunction with room-flued fireplaces. It meets the requirements of many state combustion regulations for protection against flue gas backflow caused by negative pressure. See fireplace regulations.(§4 para. 2 FeuVo)
Is the device DIBt approved?
No. The KDT 210 cable exhaust control does not have DIBt approval. If your chimney sweep or building authority requires approval, you should use an approved model such as the KDS 110 or the KDS 210 Set.
Purchase & Service
Can I install the system myself?
The mechanical part (installing the thermal switch) can be done by yourself with some technical knowledge. However, the electrical installation should always be performed by a qualified electrician.
What happens if the thermal switch breaks?
The thermal switch is a proven, purely mechanical component. Should it fail, the exhaust air system remains permanently shut down—a sure sign of malfunction. A replacement is available as an accessory.
Where can I get spare parts or accessories?
Accessories such as additional thermal switches or pipe clamps are available directly from Elektrotechnik Schabus or from specialist retailers. Please have the item number or serial number of your device ready.
