How exactly does the KDS 110 exhaust air control work? The KDS 110 cable exhaust air control ensures that your exhaust air system (e.g., extractor hood) can only be switched on when a window is open. A wired magnetic window switch detects the window position and transmits the signal to the receiver, which activates the exhaust air system.

What happens if the window is closed while the hood is running? In this case, the receiver interrupts the power supply to the exhaust system. The hood shuts down or can no longer operate – this protects against negative pressure and dangerous exhaust backflow.

Can the system also be used with multiple windows? Yes. For an OR connection (at least one of two windows is open), an additional magnetic window switch, cable magnetic switch KMS 098K22 (item 300743), can be installed.

Is the KDS 110 cable exhaust control compatible with every range hood? Generally, yes – it can be integrated into any 230 V supply line to the hood or exhaust system. For units with special connections, consult the qualified electrician who will install the exhaust control. For units with a switching capacity of more than 5 amps, the electrician must install a contactor.

How is the transmitter attached to the window? The transmitter and magnet are mounted directly to the window frame and sash using the included screws. Use the included spacers to adjust the height between the window frame and sash. Please ensure that the distance between the transmitter and the magnet is no more than 5 mm; ideally, 1-2 mm.

Can I install the system myself, or do I need an electrician? You can install the transmitter yourself. You should hire a qualified electrician to install the receiver into the power supply.

Is the KDS 110 cable exhaust control compatible with vented dryers or fireplace stoves? Yes, in this case, you can combine the KDS 110 | 116 with the ATW-519 flue gas temperature monitor : As soon as the flue gas temperature in the flue pipe exceeds 40°C, the window must be opened. Consult your chimney sweep in your planning before installation to ensure proper inspection afterward. There are significant regional differences over which Elektrotechnik-Schabus has no influence.

What is the difference between a built-in and plug-in receiver? The built-in receiver (KDS 110 | KDS 116) is permanently integrated into the hood's power cable.
The plug-in receiver (KDS 210) is simply plugged between the socket and the hood – no wiring required.

How can I monitor two windows? (OR operation)

You have the option of using a second window with an additional cable magnetic switch KMS 098K22 (item 300743). In this case, at least one window must be open for the exhaust air system to operate.

How does the extension with the KMS 098K22 cable magnetic switch (item 300743) work? The additional magnetic window switch is mounted on the window like the first one. Both switches operate in parallel.

Can the control cable be extended?

Yes, up to a maximum of 25 meters. Control cable: LIYY (2 x 0.14 mm²), diameter 3.0 mm

Can I use the contact installed by the window manufacturer in my frame for the KDS? You can do this if it's a normally open contact. A normally open contact is closed when the window is closed. Connect the included 10kΩ cable break resistor in parallel at the connection point between the KDS cable and the contact cable. (See also connection examples.)

Why is exhaust air control required by law for extractor hoods? When exhaust air systems are operated in rooms with fireplaces, negative pressure can develop, which could cause toxic exhaust gases (e.g., carbon monoxide) to backflow. Exhaust air control prevents this and is mandatory in these cases. See Fireplace Ordinance (Section 4, Paragraph 2 of the Fireplace Ordinance). 

Does the KDS 110 cable exhaust air control system meet the regulations for exhaust air systems in conjunction with fireplaces?
