CO₂ Alarm GX-D250 – Precise indoor air monitoring with external sensor and relay output
The GX-D250 CO₂ warning device is a professional solution for permanent installation in indoor spaces with regular human presence – such as classrooms, offices, or meeting rooms – and was developed to encourage timely ventilation and thus maintain a healthy air quality at a sustainable level. With a low pre-warning threshold starting at 800 ppm CO₂, the device provides early warning of rising CO₂ concentrations. An easy-to-read plain-text display shows the measured values precisely in ppm, accompanied by understandable instructions such as "Please ventilate." At the same time, a subtle warning tone supports the recommendation to supply fresh air. At a CO₂ level of 2500 ppm, a potential-free changeover relay is activated, for example, to trigger automatic forced ventilation.
The system is based on an external NDIR infrared sensor with a particularly long service life, which is continuously monitored by two microcontrollers. This ensures precise measurements with high repeatability. The sensor is pre-assembled and connected to the warning device via a 2.5 m long cable, allowing it to be optimally positioned in the room independently of the device unit – ideally at average nose height of the people present. The mounting height directly influences the sensor sensitivity: the higher the measurement, the more tolerant the system reacts, while the lower the sensor is correspondingly more sensitive.
In addition to continuous CO₂ measurement, the GX-D250 logs numerous operating parameters on the display and saves them for traceability. A second relay also protects against technical malfunctions—such as a cable break—by forwarding the alarm to a building management system. Digital transmission of the measurement data via pulse-width modulation ensures precise interpretation of CO₂ concentrations within the warning device itself.
The factory-set main alarm threshold of 2500 ppm is based on half the maximum permissible workplace concentration (MAK) for CO₂, but can be customized by Elektrotechnik Schabus upon request. However, this model is not suitable for applications with significantly higher CO₂ concentrations from technical processes or when handling dry ice. In these cases, the GX-D500P , with significantly higher alarm thresholds at 15,000 ppm and 30,000 ppm, is recommended.
