The optical warning device detects elevated CO2 levels in indoor spaces where large numbers of people regularly gather. Typically, these are production facilities, workshops, open-plan offices, and generally all indoor spaces. 1400 ppm of CO2 in the indoor air is already considered "very poor air." The maximum workplace concentration (MAK) in Germany is 5000 ppm. Therefore, the "factory" CO2 traffic light, with its yellow light starting at 1400 ppm, reminds people to thoroughly ventilate the room. Those who constantly breathe poor, stale air become tired and significantly lose their ability to perform and concentrate. This has a particularly negative impact on learning and working. The immune system is also weakened, or noticeably strengthened and stabilized with constant fresh air, which can be seen, for example, in open-plan offices, even on sick days throughout the year. The only remedy for poor air quality is regular ventilation, which is often and easily forgotten. This is precisely where the CO2 traffic light comes in. Not only does it warn of significantly increased harmful concentrations, but it also encourages you to ventilate in good time, even before the warning signal sounds at the highest warning level.
Important information about all CO2 traffic lights
Please do not unplug your traffic light overnight! The traffic light uses the nighttime quiet periods to calibrate itself correctly – just like with regular, daily ventilation in the rooms. Therefore, please leave the traffic light permanently switched on, i.e. connected to the mains, during business and/or school hours. The traffic light remembers the lowest CO2 concentration of the last 7 days and resets itself to its theoretical zero point at this rate. For this automatic calibration, the weekly average is significantly more meaningful than a daily average. To save energy, the traffic light has a light sensor that dims the LEDs after 10 minutes of total darkness, thus reducing the overall power consumption.
That’s why it’s so important to supply the traffic lights with power at night too.
The traffic light can only be taken off the grid during company holidays of more than 7 days.
