For 2-wire power interfaces with precise wet/dry detection
The SHT 8824 is a compact, active water sensor with two V4A stainless steel contacts and a potted housing made of Wepuran® plastic .
It works as a constant current sink :
Dry operation: approx. 4 mA
Wet operation: approx. 20 mA
➡️ This current change allows a clear distinction between “dry” and “wet” – ideal for controllers with a 2-wire interface.
The sensor is extremely sensitive:
✅ Even simple distilled water according to VDE 0510-5 (e.g. from the hardware store) is reliably detected.
The technology only reaches its limits when it comes to completely ion-free ultrapure water.
Home automation with analog power input
PLC or BMS with 2-wire sensor inputs
Applications with increased recognition requirements
Only suitable for dry environments – permanent humidity can cause corrosion through electrolysis
